September 1997
Dear Concerned Citizen,
Tired of those ads that entice you into buying a product that doesn't work? Are you sick of seeing irresponsible ads that encourage unhealthy or risky behavior? Or are you just perturbed at over-commercialization? Well, if you are, then we invite you to nominate advertisements for the Harlan Page Hubbard Lemon Awards to be held on December 4, 1997.
Consumer, public health groups, and organizations bestow these "awards" to the most unfair, misleading or irresponsible advertisements of the past year. In previous years, the Consumer Federation of America, the American Heart Association, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and the National Consumers League have been among the organizations that chose the "winners" of the Awards and participated in the press conference.
Our press conference receives national attention and each year is covered by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and the Associated Press. Oftentimes, the event also is covered by NBC Today Show, Good Morning America, or the CBS Morning News.
Please feel free to e-mail Brian Branton with any possible nominations.
Sincerely,
Brian Branton
Legislative Associate
